About the role:
A privately held and rapidly growing specialty lines property & casualty insurance group is seeking a Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead all accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory functions across its holding company and multiple subsidiaries. This is a pivotal executive leadership role with responsibility for GAAP and statutory reporting, audit oversight, internal controls, and system integrations. The ideal candidate is a proven insurance finance leader with deep technical accounting expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a hands-on approach to team development and process improvement.
Duties and responsibilities:
Oversight of all STAT and GAAP financial reporting across four subsidiaries. Leadership of monthly/quarterly close, general ledger integrity, and internal controls. Regulatory filings (NAIC, state, future SEC), audit readiness, and SOX preparedness. Direct oversight of AP/AR, premium accounting, reinsurance, reserves, and investments. System integration and automation initiatives for scalable financial operations.
Experience:
10+ years experience in property casualty insurance finance/accounting required. 5+ years in a senior or executive leadership role. Deep knowledge of insurance accounting (STAT/GAAP), NAIC filings, and ICFR/SOX. Proven ability to manage external audits, internal teams, and cross-functional initiatives. CPA or Master’s preferred.
Compensation:
